So, it's the weekly Tips, Thoughts, and Hacks list!

Here we go, this week's Triple Threat:

Body:

Interesting facts I came across this doing research for an upcoming podcast episode with a Doctor who specialises in Sleep... Yes, sleep.

Interesting basics: a healthy adult will go through 3 - 5 cycles of sleep a night. Within those cycles, we have four distinct stages of sleep: Light, Slow Wave Sleep, REM, Wake.

Did you know, during our Slow Wave Sleep (deep sleep) our body produces 95% of its daily supply of growth hormones? So we don't get those biceps in the gym, but rather in bed. During this stage, our muscles repair and grow. So if you train regularly, make sure your body still gets enough Slow Wave Sleep. Is there a way to track this? There are a few wearable devices that can track the different stages to help you optimise your sleep and body. I’m currently wearing a device called WHOOP. This device has had such a massive impact on my health and fitness. I’m living much more intentional, and by using data, I improve my daily habits and diet. I also find the nutrition or habits that negatively affect my energy, mood, health and fitness.

Min hours of sleep a night is 7-9 hours. I will share the sleep podcast episode soon. I will be asking all the questions that can practically help us sleep and live better.

Mind:

Author, Ryan Holiday, inspired me once again this week with his newsletter:

Seneca, an ambitious guy if there ever was one, wrote about the shameful spectacle of the “lawyer whose dying breath passes while at court, at an advanced age, pleading for unknown litigants and still seeking the approval of ignorant spectators.” He was just talking about Odysseus in another form—he was talking about all of us who can’t stop, who have to keep going, who have to keep achieving, who are incapable of knowing what “enough” is.

The key to a great life—and to happiness—is stillness. It’s contentment. It’s enjoying what we have. It’s the ability to say no. To reject the temptation to do more, more, more—even if more is another impressive journey or an occupational honor.

Stop. At least for today. Just Stop. Be still.

Soul:

It’s about friendship and relationships. Unfriend someone in real life - are the people you spend time with giving you energy or taking energy? Brilliant episode.

p.s If you know someone who will enjoy these kinds of weekly tips, thoughts, and hacks, share this email with them.

I hope you found some value in this week’s Triple Threat Thursday. Please give me feedback - which one was your favourite? Body? Mind, or Soul? What do you want more or less of? Have one epic week & weekend!

Lekker Maryntjies!!

This foto is my sleep stats from last night. Not a bad night in bed. More than 20% of both SWS (Slow Wave Sleep) and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is a good sign. I have found that not eating close to my bedtime, reading in bed (hard copy only) and meditation helps me improve my sleep quality. p.s quite a few disturbances, that's still normal, I use to get 11... I kind of geek out on these things, but it's worth it and fun!
